December is a month of prepping good tidings mixed with year-end cheer and fiscal pushes. Businesses thrive, schools wrap up lessons and everyone scrambles to make every moment count. You deserve a moment for you, and get to a HIP Yoga class to break up the holiday, year-end madness. Treat yourself to an hour with Heidi or Marla, lifting your spirit and relaxing your mind.
Yoga studio classes are not just another workout. In addition to stretching and strengthening with challenging postures and flow from each, you can also reduce your stress levels with each session. It’s science! Various studies in the past few years have found that practicing yoga helps release an acid called GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) in the brain. GABA reduces stress levels and helps the body prepare for better sleep. Low levels of GABA have been linked to epilepsy, depression and anxiety. In one particular study the levels of GABA were measured after subjects participated in an hour of yoga or an hour of reading. The yogis had a 27% increase in GABA after their session while the readers had no change. Findings support yoga as a drug-free and affordable treatment for depression and anxiety. Those are results should inspire you to grab your mat!
During the workshop learn postures that deepen your practice, so you can get more out of any yoga class. You’ll focus on deep breathing, yoga flow, relaxation postures, meditation, deep stretching and foam rolling. Take your foam roller home and learn how to use it for a deep tissue relaxation and a better night’s sleep!
This season give yourself your own peace of mind. Sign up for a yoga studio class here!
