The kids are going back to school, shouldn’t you get a lesson too? A Pilates curriculum aids in the mind/body connection that makes your practice more effective and rewarding. The benefits of being truly tuned into a task certainly make it more rewarding and productive. Don’t zombie through any part of your life, least of all Pilates.

Neutral - A neutral alignment refers to the natural curvature of the spine. Through out the day many factors steer our bodies away from neutral: balancing babies, carrying purses, working at computers, driving and so on. Maintaining a neutral position in Pilates will help restore it outside of class.

Find YOUR neutral: lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat in a tension free position. The spine should have two areas that do not touch the mat, your neck and your lower back (cervical spine and lumbar spine, respectively). This position is maintained and stabilized in most exercises, from plank to kneeling, all fours and lying down.
