5 Things You Never Knew About Pilates Classes at HIP Studio

1) We are NOT just SPX! A recent fitness trend that took our neighbors in tinseltown by storm is called SPX Fitness. Founded by Sebastian Lagree and his wife Carrie. What is SPX? In a nutshell it is a modified version of traditional Pilates classes. SPX Fitness™ is an innovative workout specifically designed to strengthen, tighten, and tone the body quickly. SPX Fitness is an aggressive approach to full body conditioning. SPX can be a great fitness option for some people and we have several trainers in our HIP family that are SPX certified. AT HIP Studio, we take it one step further. Not only do we acknowledge SPX Certification but we also require all of our trainers to be certified in traditional Pilates as well. We feel this guarantees the safety of our members and integrity of our Pilates classes.

2) All Of Our Classes Are Based On The 10 Principles of Pilates

Always be attentive to these principles during your Pilates classes. Both during learning and performance of the specific work. They are the foundation of this mind – body system and make the Pilates method unique.

  • Awareness
  • Breath
  • Balance
  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Center
  • Efficiency
  • Flow
  • Precision
  • Harmony

Before your next Pilates class at HIP Studio, Take a minute and read each one of these words, maybe even say them out loud. They are painted on the back wall in case you forget them. Select three words to focus on during your next class and see how it impacts your workout. Next time, select a different three and so on until you find yourself in perfect harmony where the mind and body are brought together to create maximum efficiency.

3) Form Trumps Everything!

You will get so much more out for your Pilates class if you execute the move correctly even if only a few reps. Do not cheat. Do not rely on your strong side. That defeats the whole purpose! In order to achieve the perfect balance between mind and body we must treat every part of ourselves with equal respect. Give your body a chance; you will be surprised what it is capable of.

4) We've Got Moves!

Most Pilates and fitness studios go through the same moves over and over again. Not only can this leave your workouts boring and unmotivated, it can also lead you towards a fitness plateau. This is when you are using the same muscles over and over again and not seeing any results. At HIP Studio, we have a variety of trainers. We encourage them to be themselves and teach their classes their way. We are constantly adding new classes and moves in order to stay ahead of the fitness evolution curve. This guarantees that no two classes are the same and that your muscles are always confused giving our members the results they are seeking.

5) Our Pilates Reformers are Custom Designed by Us, Just for You

Our HIPformers are custom designed with your comfort and performance in mind. They are made and manufactured in the USA. Unlike traditional reformers, our HIPformers have a back platform and a back foot bar with a second set of straps, allowing for an increased variety of exercises.  They are made with eco-friendly renewable wood. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! pilates classes at hip studio
